This fall, I had the privilege of interning at the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office (FSLSO). It was an experience that transformed my understanding of the insurance industry. Through personalized training and shadowing, I gained invaluable insight into the surplus lines market and learned how FSLSO is the regulatory backbone of the industry
One of my key contributions was assisting with the SLIP+ beta testing, where I collaborated with multiple different teams to identify and resolve issues within the platform. I also was able to complete the 60-Hour Surplus Lines Pre-Licensing Course and the SLICE Program, which fast-tracked my path to getting my surplus lines license. The courses provided by the office equipped me with practical skills and knowledge that set me apart in a competitive insurance industry.
The comprehensive learning experience provided by FSLSO helped me gain confidence in my abilities and sparked a passion for surplus lines insurance. This internship has laid a solid foundation for my career, and I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship, connections, and insights I’ve gained along the way. For any student seeking a transformative opportunity in insurance, FSLSO offers an unparalleled experience.
