My summer internship was an experience I will always be grateful for. It was my first time getting firsthand experience in the insurance industry. I had the opportunity to learn and see things you just won’t learn and see in a classroom. I mainly worked with the Agent and Insurer Services (AIS) unit, but I learned something new from each department. FSLSO has a culture of hospitality, integrity, and growth and every employee was nothing but helpful.

Every member of the FSLSO team proved they care about my growth and success in the industry and as a student, all summer. I was nervous coming to a new city for an internship, but it didn’t even take a week before the team made me feel at home. Every question I had was answered in a helpful way, and reinforced with personal experiences and advice. Learning what FSLSO does has added a new perspective on how I viewed the surplus lines industry, as well as insurance as a whole. It truly was the best internship I could have hoped for because I wasn’t sure where I wanted to end up with insurance, but learning what I did was a catalyst in determining what kind of job I want to pursue.

One of my favorite things I gained from this internship is the 60-Hour Course and SLICE Program. I was able to pass both courses. The courses will help speed up the time it would take to get my license when I become a Florida resident. This shows FSLSO’s commitment to the success of their interns because most internships do not offer help with licensing like FSLSO.

Through personal training and shadowing, meetings, and different projects, the knowledge I gained this summer will be paramount to my growth in my career. Because of FSLSO and their team, I have established a firm foundation that I would not have attained anywhere else. This internship is something I will always recommend to any student looking into the insurance industry.
